Entry for December 21, 2006
For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a savior, Christ the Lord.
The true meaning of Christmas is not the gifts, the decorations, the tree, not even time spent with the family. The true meaning of this holiday season is the person Jesus Christ.
Although he came to this world as a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and in a manger, he did not remain as a baby. He grew up to be a man. He lived on this earth for the purpose of leading us to God. When John the baptist was baptizing in Bethabara just beyond Jordan, John paused his baptismal service and declared " Behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world" that is what we need to remember this Christmas season.
In the origional text that same scripture says " Behold the sacrificial lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world, and that He was, and that He did. The Old Testament lamb that was offered once a year was a type of what Jesus would be. The lamb of the Old Testament had to be spotless, he was placed in a holding place and examined for flaws...if a defect was found that lamb could not be used. on the 14th day of Nissan at 9 O'Clock in the morning the high priest would go behind a vail and kill the lamb, and if the offering was accepted the high priest would declare with a loud voice "it is finished" and the lamb would serve as an atonement for a year.
Jesus was indeed the "Sacrifical Lamb of God" . He as the little lamb was taken from among the flock... In Gathsemene Jesus was seperated from his deciples and was carried to Pilots hall, and there was scourged.... The Prophesy was fulfilled " He would receive 39 stripes, by those stripes we are healed. after 3 days Pilot declaired " I find no reason for this man to die". But at exactly 9 O'Clock in the morning on the 14th day of Nissan, while the high priest was going behind a vail to offer a lamb, Jesus Christ was on a place known as "The Skull" Jesus Christ made an offering that would atone all of mankind by the sacrifice of himself, "The Sacrificial Lamb" and when Jesus cried "It Is Finished" the vail in the temple was torn in half from top to bottom ( which means God did it).
Jesus Christ Died on a cross, was buried, and after 3 days he rose again! He ascended to the right hand of God, and there he makes intercession for us today. And will someday real soon come back to the earth to catch us away to meet him in the air, and so shall we forever and always be with the Lord.
That my friend is the true meaning of Christmas. Take the time this Christmas and thank him for the offering of himself. And give Glory and praise to the precious name of Jesus, and God the Father will once again be glorified in His Son.
